Patio Canopies and Gazebos

Canopies and gazebos for the patio are almost a necessity for those of us that enjoy spending time outside with our family and friends.  But choosing the right one can be frustrating or even complicated.  Models for the patio are basically the same as backyard canopies.  But there is one difference that is very important.  When I think of a canopy for the patio, I think about how permanent that I want it to be.

Patio gazebos are intended to be assembled and left in place all season long.  They typically come with a vinyl top that is designed to be water proof and that is able to withstand years of being exposed to the sun.  Canvas canopies have become very popular these days, but canvas models simply cannot handle the elements year round.  If you are going to get more than just a couple of seasons out of it, you are going to have to remove the top every season.

Here are a few things to consider before you make a purchase.

The single most important option that you should look for in a gazebo is whether or not it has a screen or mosquito netting.  Many of the higher end models come with this feature, but netting can be purchased for many other models.

Does the model that you are considering purchasing come with weights?  Yep, you need something to hold it down or the wind will blow it away or damage it beyond repair.  This is the most common thing that people forget when installing a gazebo or canopy for their patio.  Some models need to be anchored down with screws or stakes.  While others need weighted bags or concrete pavers to hold them in place.
